Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Liaoning. The Shuyatun Gr was named by Li Xuelu in 1963. The type locality Shuyatun is in the Grazing-land Township, Tieling County, Liaoning Province.

Synonym: (树芽屯群)


Lithology and Thickness

The Shuyatun Gr is composed of interbedding of clastic rock and carbonate rock, sandwiched with minor volcanic rock. It is dominated by sandstone, dolomitic slate, spilite and stromatolite-bearing limestone. It is rather stable in lithological character, but laterally variable in thickness. It is 4645 m thick. Upward succession of Tongjiajie Fm, Hutouling Fm, Erdaogou Fm, Shimen Fm, Songjiagou Fm and Yangshitun Fm [See individual formations for details.]

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in conformable contact with underlying Sanchazi Gr of Changchengian System.

Upper contact

Schematic stratigraphic column shows next higher regional unit is the Huiahirun Fm (not in current Lexicon).

Regional extent

Northeast Liaoning. The Shuyatun Gr widely distributed in the Fanhe River drainage area.
